High Blood Pressure

Most people find out their BP is high during a checkup for something else. There are usually no symptoms until there is a problem, which is exactly why it gets ignored, and why the tablets get stopped as soon as someone feels fine. BP needs a reading, a dose that suits you, and a check every few months. Not one visit and a strip of medicine.

Passing urine more often, thirst that does not settle, tiredness, weight loss, or a wound that will not heal. Sugar is measured here, along with HbA1c, kidney function and the other tests that show what the sugar has been doing over months rather than on one morning. Uncontrolled sugar is also what turns a small foot wound into a long problem.
Thyroid

Weight gain or loss without a reason, hair fall, feeling cold or unusually tired, irregular periods, or swelling at the front of the neck. It is common in women and it is frequently missed, because every one of those symptoms gets explained away as something else. A simple blood test settles it, and most cases are controlled with a single daily tablet.
Jaundice

Yellow eyes, dark urine, loss of appetite and weakness. It gets treated at home with remedies for weeks in a lot of families here. Jaundice is a sign rather than a disease, and what matters is finding the cause. It can come from infection, from a gallstone blocking the flow, or from the liver itself, and the treatment is completely different in each case.
Fever That Will Not Settle

A fever running more than three or four days, especially through the monsoon, needs testing rather than another course of tablets from a medical store. Typhoid, malaria and dengue all begin the same way and are treated differently. Blood tests are done here, so the cause is usually known the same day.
Test and Consultation in the Same Visit
BP, sugar and thyroid are all managed on numbers. When the laboratory is somewhere else, a patient gives the sample one day, collects the report another, and comes back a third time to have it read. Most people simply stop coming after the second step.
